Recently, Sommelier Matías Chiesa of Restó participated as the only judge from Argentina at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC) in London, England.
In 1969 a venture named Club Oenologique, was launched in by wine chemist Anton Massel who later, in 1978, had the idea of creating a wine competition based not only on organoleptic judgement but on a chemical analysis as well. Thus, the International Wine and Spirits Competition was born.
The standard for judgement is lain on by a 2-stage judging process: a professional blind tasting conducted by some of the most well known sommeliers and wine connoisseurs in the world, and a technical analysis (made up of chemical and microbiological tests) conducted in a fully equipped independent laboratory in Surrey, UK.
