Acclaimed Chef Harlan Goldstein has obviously made a great impact on the Hong Kong dining scene over the years, and his newest venture, Gold by Harlan Goldstein, is probably the best example thus far. With its dazzling and bold decor fitting of it’s name, Gold offers guests a unique dining experience in a truly luxurious setting, which blends a grand restaurant with a fresh el fesco deck and throws in a DJ podium and a sculpted glass bar just for fun.
The menu is comprised of Harlan’s take on contemporary European cuisine, using mostly Italian, Spanish and French ingredients but preparing them in his own style. In addition to an already very extensive list of dishes, 8-10 specials are offered each day, seasonal dishes in which local ingredients are relied on more heavily. Gold’s wine list is impressive as well, with bold, full bodied Italian reds being the most popular choice, as this type matches best the robust flavor profile of Harlan’s food. The vintage wines, Harlan’s private collection, are especially astonishing, with bottles such as a 1978 Henri Jayer and a 1961 Petrus popping up under the aptly named “Crazy Stuff” section.
