3 Favorite Varietals
Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Sangiovese.
Favorite Brand for Each Varietal
Local wines: Le Vieux Pin Sauvignon Blanc, Laughing Stock Pinot Gris, Painted Rock "Icon".
Which one of your 3 favorite varietals would win in a wrestling match?
The Icon would definitely lay the smack down but the other two would have a nice match!.
Favorite Food-Wine Pairing
I wouldn't say I have an ultimate favorite pairing. But the moment that everything works, the flavors of the food perfectly balancing with the wine...that is bliss. That is my favorite moment.
Briefly describe the best restaurant experience you ever had
To this day, I still have dreams about the meal I had at Le Pieds du Couchon in Montreal. Each course involved some form of foie gras! They are known for "Duck in a Can". It was truly divine--one of the specials that day was crepes served with braised lobster mushrooms, seared foie gras and shaven local corn... *yum* The food is fresh, local and must while in Montreal! But make sure to make a reservation, they are busy!
Favorite Wine Gadget
I love the wine/bottle combination lock--so people can't break into your stash!.
Favorite Wine Name/Label
Blasted Church Winery, Okanagan, BC, Canada (great wines too).
Top Wine Faux Pas
Wine is a topic that is always changing and evolving. I think the biggest wine "faux pas" is pretending you know everything about the topic. In my experience in the wine world, it seems the more you learn, the less you know. That's what makes it exciting.
How do you feel about the "wine in a juice box" trend?
The whole objective of the wine industry is to produce wine to be drank. If the wine in a juice box trend encourages people to drink wine, whether it's because it's more for convience or comfort, then I would never want to discourage those from enjoying.
In your opinion, what is the role of the sommelier?
The role of the sommelier is quite easy, it is your job to make people feel comfortable drinking wine. No matter what level of enjoyment from first time sippers to professional tasters, its our job to find the wine that's perfect for the person and the occasion!
